Pediatricians’ ‘advice to DGS’ on vaccinating 5-11 year olds already submitted

Just as predicted by Expresso last weekend, the advice by pediatricians on the DGS question over whether or not healthy 5-11 year olds should be vaccinated against Covid-19, has been that no, this is not a priority: children at risk would be a priority, but not healthy children (click here). Nonetheless, it has been clear for some weeks that the political will is for vaccines to be rolled out in younger age groups (click here). To this end, today’s advice has been couched with the proviso that pediatricians believe final decisions should include opinions on the social and educational benefits of vaccinating all children over the age of 5. DGS health director Graça Freitas has already insisted the vaccines are ‘safe’ for younger age groups.
