Featuring stamp collections, newspapers, maps, miniature soldiers and more, the collecting exhibition is on show at the Municipal Gallery until January 27.
São Brás de Alportel’s Municipal Gallery started the year with «Peace to Wars», a new collection exhibition organised by Amigos da Filatelia (Friends of Philately) and with the support of CTT (Post Office).
The exhibition presents a set of collectable pieces associated with the themes of War and the construction of Peace. Pieces on display highlight events such as the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War and the 80th anniversary of “D-Day”.
With this exhibition, the “Friends of Philately” help raise awareness for the construction of Peace. In the exhibition, visitors can find philatelic collections (stamp collections), but also other materials, such as miniatures of vehicles from World War II such as the Panzarjager Tiger 1944, the Panzerjager Tiger 1945, the V Panther Ausf. 171 from 1944, among others belonging to the Luís Braz collection.
Collector Vítor Lourenço collaborates in this exhibition with a set of magazines published during World War II, namely «Neptuno» and «Guerra Ilustrada».
In addition to national and Spanish philately, there is also the cartophilia collection “Great World War 1914 – 1918”, a set of medals by Alexandrino Rodrigo de Passos, a set of documents alluding to the First World War and a collection of bottles of perfume.
Sérgio Pedro, José Belchior, Jorge Bomba, Adelino Caravela, Francisco Galveias, Aurélia Parreira and the Liga dos Combatentes de Vila Real de Santo António contributed to the preparation of this themed collecting exhibition that runs until January 27.
