PCP push to block ‘compensation’ for motorway concessions

PCP Communists are determined to stop companies running the country’s motorways from claiming compensation due to the massive drop in income as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Explain reports, contracts signed with these companies stipulate ‘guaranteed receipts’. In other words, concessionaries are entitled to claim money from the government. But the country’s communist party says it will be tabling a draft law to try and stop this.

The party has a number of other ideas to save citizens from possible hardship.

It will be presenting a proposal in parliament later this week to ensure any cuts to supplies of water, gas, telecommunications and electricity due to non-payment of bills are prohibited during the lockdown.

It will also call for university fees to be ‘frozen’ while the universities themselves are closed, along with rent payable in student accommodation.
