The small village of Ferragado will be honouring its patron saint Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of Conception) in August with a religious celebration known as ‘triduum’, street entertainment and a traditional procession.
First up is the ‘triduum’ celebration, which begins on Wednesday, August 12 and lasts three days at the local church (Igreja Paroquial).
Festivities become lighter and livelier on August 14, when events move to Angrinha beach with musical performances from a variety of local groups and performers.
Finally, the highlight of the celebrations will come on August 15 with the traditional procession.
It begins at 6pm from the church, where the icon of Nossa Senhora will be taken down to the village and taken onboard one of the fishing boats. Back on land, a blessing of the local fishing boats and fishermen will take place before the icon heads back to the church through Largo Rainha Dª Leonor.
At 9pm, celebrations close with a beach party, again at Angrinha, followed by midnight fireworks.
