Partnerships with Africa pointed as path towards European energy independence

Partnerships with Africa could give Europe energy independence, “if it has vision”, Portugal’s former foreign minister and deputy prime minister Paulo Portas told the Eurafrican Forum in Lisbon today. “Europe has to make partnerships and technology transfers to Africa,” he said, outlining what Lusa refers to as “new geopolitical maps after the pandemic and with the effects of the war”. The Eurafrican Forum is taking place in Carcavelos until Friday, and will be attended by Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, the Presidents of Portugal, Cape Verde and Sao Tomé e Principe, and several Portuguese and African businesspeople and bankers.
