Parties kick back at ‘emigré vote counting disgrace

The absolute fiasco of emigré voting in January’s legislative elections is proving difficult to sweep under the carpet. Despite President Marcelo saying the disaster makes no difference to the swearing in of the new government – due on February 23 – Chega, PAN and LIVRE have appealed to the Constitutional Court about the decision to simply ‘ditch’ what ended up being around 80% of the emigré vote (around 157,000 ballot slips click here). PSD has gone a step further: it is presenting a criminal complaint to the Public Ministry. Leader Rui Rio has described the situation as ‘unacceptable’.
