Parque raises €55,000 for Algarve charities

OWNERS, GUESTS and Vigia employees joined Parque da Floresta’s Charity Committee last weekend to help raise funds for local Algarve charities. The second of the annual charity events was sponsored primarily by Baptista Supermarket and raised in excess of 55,000 euros.

This year’s beneficiaries include Lagos Orphanage, Núcleo de Educação da Criança Inadaptada (NECI), Cancer Research and Vila do Bispo Bombeiros.

The weekend began on Saturday May 5, when the main competition was an Am Am followed by a prize-giving dinner and auction in the evening. The Parque’s golf director Alan Hodson’s team triumphed in first place with an enviable score of 89. Sunday concluded the event with a Texas Scramble in which Parque da Floresta owners, The Whittaker’s, with help from pal Bob Kelly, prevailed.

The star auction lot consisted of 10 days in a luxurious ocean-front villa on Mexico’s magnificent Pacific Coast, which also included five days’ use of a skippered sports-fisherman boat. It was auctioned off for the fantastic sum of 12,000 euros. A seven night stay for two at the exclusive Humber Valley Golf Resort in Newfoundland, Canada, collected 3,500 euros.

Alan Hodson, golf director for Parque da Floresta, said: “It is vital for The Vigia Group and all of us here at Parque da Floresta to continue supporting the local community, local charities and those of us less fortunate than ourselves.”
