Several businesses – including a four-star hotel – could be built in the grounds of the Parque das Cidades, the site of the Algarve Stadium and the venue for three matches during the Euro 2004 championship.
“We will be examining the large number of applications put forward regarding construction proposals very soon,” confirmed Seruca Emídio, President of Loulé Câmara. “The Parque das Cidades has a privileged position near the main highways, urban centres and Faro Airport,” he added. Emídio acknowledged that the huge outlay (around 10 million euros from Loulé and Faro Câmaras) will hold back certain other projects, including road links and sanitation work. But he said that he recognised, “the necessity of finding solutions to make the Parque das Cidades attractive and dynamic”.
Emídio went on to say that all parties concerned should be pleased with the new hospital planned for Parque das Cidades, “when only a support clinic had been forecast”, and expressed satisfaction that the headquarters of National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) in the Algarve has moved to the grounds.
