Parisians told to “smile” by tourist board

With the economic crisis affecting tourism throughout Europe, the Paris tourist board is pulling out all the stops to welcome visitors to the city.

They have made one simple request to the residents of the romantic city: smile!

Visitors to the city have fallen 17 per cent since January. Parisians have a reputation for not being the friendliest of people so the tourism board has set up “smile ambassadors” at all the most visited sites around the city.

They hope this will make visitors feel more welcome in the city and to encourage residents to do the same.
