ANAFRE, the national association of parish councillors, has just launched Internet portal e-freguesias “with the objective of bringing citizens closer to their local entities”. Applied in 1,250 parishes, the platform has cost €1 million – but the problem is that many ‘presidents’ have no idea how to use it. ANAFRE president Pedro Cegonho has admitted they will “need training” if the portal is to work to the best of its abilities.
“There are many presidents who due to age and professional experience are removed from the digital age,” he agreed.
The idea of the portal is that local people can be in touch with their parish council “without leaving their homes”.
