Lagoa’s world No76 Pedro Martins was one of only two Portuguese badminton players alongside Telma Santos competing at this week’s individual World Championships in Paris.
The Che Lagoense star faced a difficult task against world No24 Yu Hsin Hsiehl in round one and was narrowly beaten 22-20, 21-17.
Santos took on Korea’s world No20 Moon Hi Kim in her opening ladies draw encounter and went out 21-11, 21-15.
