Pandemic cost Portugal €10.4 million per day in 2020

The combat of the pandemic during 2020 cost the Portuguese State €10.4 million per day. This is the calculation coming from UTAO (standing for ‘technical unit of budgetary support) which, it admits does not include the public guarantees assumed by the State of €7.1 billion. These can only be properly accounted for if they end up not being ‘assumed’, which, says UTAO, will put 2021’s budgetary balance, and balances of years to come, at risk.
