Palmares Golf celebrates first year in business

Onyria Palmares Golf is celebrating its first anniversary this month with positive first-year results.

Since the golf course was redeveloped to include an additional nine holes inaugurated last year by course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr, Onyria Palmares Golf has received international acclaim for the challenging game it provides to golfers, who play amid outstanding natural scenery, and is already recognised as one of the best golf courses in the world. The transformation of the golf course, which now boasts a total of 27 holes, represented an investment of €10 million.

Since the re-design, Onyria Palmares Golf has been elected second best  course in Portugal by readers of Today’s Golfer publication and at the end of 2011 was placed 26th in the international ranking of best European courses of Golf World magazine.

So far this year, a total of 14,000 rounds of golf have been played at the course.

João Pinto Coelho, Onyria Palmares Golf sales director, said: “Our first year of activity (since the transformation) has been fantastic and to be recognised by two of the most prestigious golf magazines in the UK is a reflection of our hard work and, of course, that of Robert Trent Jones Jr.”

The resort also integrates the Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort, which represents a long-term investment of €300 million.
