Two parking meters have been installed along one of Carvoeiro’s busiest roads.
Charges to park at Rua do Barranco, the road out of the town, began on June 18.
The measure, which follows an agreement signed between the Carvoeiro Junta de Freguesia (Parish Council) and Lagoa Câmara, is to ensure parking rotation, which will serve to boost local commerce and services.
The car parking area to be charged is from the Rua dos Combatentes junction to the Ecopontos recycling bins, encompassing a total of around 40 spaces. Car parking elsewhere in the town is free.
Jorge Pardal, President of the Carvoeiro Parish Council, told the Algarve Resident: “The measure will ensure that those citizens looking to do some shopping, or go to the bank or post office will be able to find a parking space more easily.”
Paid-for parking is in place from Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 8pm, and will cost €0.80 per hour, in fractioned 15 minute periods.
The measure, although expected to be implemented year round, may be suspended during the winter months, confirmed the Parish Council President.
“Residents of the area are allowed two hours’ free parking each day, namely from 8am to 9am and from 7pm to 8pm,” said Jorge Pardal, adding that they must apply for this exemption at the Junta de Freguesia.
