The small town of Paderne is in shock after a 38-year-old man shot his 68-year-old mother to death with a shotgun during the early hours of this Friday morning (July 10).
GNR police have confirmed the man was arrested and that the case in now being investigated by the PJ criminal police.
It is unknown what led the man to shoot his own mother in their home.
According to Jornal de Notícias, the man is said to have suffered from “psychiatric problems” and was known to be violent. Two guns had already been confiscated from the suspect who in 2009 had fired one of them on a public street.
The newspaper writes that the man called his father to confess to having committed the crime. It also says the suspect was waiting for police inside the house when they arrived shortly after 2.30am.
