WORLD FAMOUS flamenco guitarist, Paco de Lucia, will be performing for the very first time in the Algarve at the municipal stadium of Castro Marim, this Saturday (August 20) at 10pm.
Recognised throughout the globe as one of the greatest guitarists and composers, Spain’s Paco de Lucia has led the flamenco revolution over recent decades and has been credited as bringing new influences to the genre, moving away from the traditional and adding flavours of jazz and bossa nova.
Paco de Lucia was born as Francisco Sánchez Gómez in Algeciras, Cadiz, in 1947, and adopted his artistic name in honour of his mother, Lucia Gómez. Paco launched his music career at the tender age of 11, when he performed on Radio Algeciras. One year later, he received a special prize at a flamenco competition in Jerez de la Frontera and the rest, as they say, is history…
With several successful albums and world tours, not to mention a few awards along the way, Paco de Lucia has become a hugely popular artist.
This unique concert has a special meaning, since Castro Marim is the birthplace of the artist’s mother and promises to be a unique evening. Tickets are priced between 20 and 40 euros and are on sale from Castro Marim Câmara, branches of Millennium-BCP bank, Jornal do Algarve and El Corte Inglês stores in Spain.
