Ovibeja opens without invite to minister

Ovibeja, one of the largest rural fairs dedicated to agriculture, has opened for its 2023 edition, without inviting minister for agriculture Maria do Céu Antunes. Little details like this will be lost on anyone outside agricultural circles, but it was intentional and it was another indication of how deeply the sector feels ‘betrayed’ by the government. Says Expresso, the lack of acknowledgment follows “farmers’ generalised discontent”. Conversely, President Marcelo will be visiting Ovibeja tomorrow.
