A study has found that over half of students in Portugal avoid using school toilets because they are dirty, rundown or lack essential items such as toilet paper.
The issue is commonplace in all state-run schools analysed, new or old, but is even more noticeable in the Greater Lisbon and Porto areas.
In some schools, there is only one toilet for every 140 students.
