Over half a million visit Algarve tourism offices

Over half a million people (588,000) visited the Algarve’s 21 tourism offices last year and most were “very happy” with the results.

So says a new study revealed yesterday (May 31) by the regional tourism board (RTA).

Faro’s office was the busiest office (89,000), followed by Tavira (68,000) and Lagos (61,000).

“Tourism offices are playing an increasingly important role in welcoming people who choose the Algarve for their holidays,” said tourism boss Desidério Silva.

“The way tourists are treated at tourism offices can affect how long they stay and whether they return, as well as their perceptions of the region,” he added.

Hopes are that tourism offices will be even busier this year, with a new one due to open soon at Faro Airport.

The Algarve’s ‘Postos do Turismo’ all carry leaflets and information on the Algarve’s cultural events, monuments, and leisure activities.
