SteriliseOurStrays, formerly known as SOS Algarve Animals, is trying to raise funds for a one-week spayathon this spring, in which 300 cats will be sterilised.
The focus will be cats from the council of Albufeira and Loulé. “In the future, we would love to expand this project to more areas in the Algarve. In order to be able to do this, we need to raise funds for 300 cats, or €14,100 to be exact, which will include operation, antibiotics injection, defleaing and deworming. We have already raised €8,200, so we need to raise €5,900 before April 2022,” said Ginie de Weerd, president of Animal Aid Associação Protetora dos Animais – SteriliseOurStrays.
In order to achieve this goal, there will be an Online Valentine Auction, which runs from February 7 to 14 at 8pm.

SteriliseOurStrays gave some background information to improve its chances of raising more funds to help with this spayathon in April:
• In 2021, we helped 1,440 animals, and were invoiced for over €84,000;
• The spayathon in April will cost €14,100 for 300 cats! We have €8,200 already, so need to raise €5,900 before April 9.
• Quinta Jacintina boutique hotel in Quinta do Lago has offered accommodation for the incoming vets and staff, and there is another offer of overnight stay for three vets/staff in Ferragudo. Another friend has also offered food for all the volunteers, vets and staff for three days during the spayathon.
“And we have only just started preparing! The support of local businesses is absolutely heart-warming!” said Ginie.
