Around 61,133 doctors will be voting today in the second ballot to elect a successor to Miguel Guimarães, the urologist who has led the Ordem dos Médicos (general medical council) for two three-year mandates. The choice is between Carlos Cortes and Rui Nunes. Carlos Cortes is a specialist in clinical pathology; Rui Nunes an ear, nose and throat specialist working out of Porto. In the first ballot less than 40% of doctors eligible to vote exercised this right.
