Over 5,600 foreigners are living in Portugal after being wooed by the country’s ‘non-habitual resident’ tax regime, which allows any retired person in Europe 10-years free from paying taxes as long as they haven’t lived here for the last five years.
According to Diário de Notícias, Portugal has received nearly 8,000 requests to benefit from this regime since 2009.
Most of the foreigners who are benefitting from these tax benefits are French, Swedish and Finnish, DN added.
