The rule that people should wear masks in outdoor situations when physical distancing is impossible is due to fall on Sunday, and by all accounts, politicians are not set to renew it – although it is likely still to be strongly advised in large outdoor gatherings. However public health doctors have ‘sounded the alarm’ over a possibility that people may be dropping their guard ‘too hastily’. Their advice is that people who are particularly vulnerable should stick with the measure. Information coming from countries like Israel has also shown how doing away with restrictions, even among a highly vaccinated population, can lead to a rise in case numbers. The rule over mask wearing in indoor situations maintains, and is likely to stay in place for months to come.
