The free performance starts at 18:30 this evening at the Igreja do Carmo.
Orquestra do Algarve, conducted by maestro Martim Sousa Tavares and accompanied solo by violist Sofia Silva Sousa, will perform in an Easter concert on April 9, at 18.30, at the Igreja do Carmo in Tavira.
The show’s programme, with free entry, is composed of pieces by Antonio Vivaldi, Richard Wagner, Joseph Haydn and Benjamin Britten.
«Easter, in its narrative and meaning, goes far beyond the message of faith. The last moments of Christ’s life and the miracle of his resurrection set the tone for a unique concert that includes some of the main Easter symbologies that will be presented and correlated with the music by maestro Martim Sousa Tavares», says the Tavira Municipality.
The concert is an excellent opportunity to enjoy Sofia Silva Sousa’s performance, “a young and awarded Portuguese violist currently developing her career with the London Symphony Orchestra”.

The Orquestra Clássica de Algarve will also give a concert on April 25 to mark the day of the Carnation Revolution. The show will start at 18:30 at Teatro das Figuras in Faro, featuring the Community choir and singer Viviane.
Together they will perform songs by famous Portuguese artists such as Carlos Paredes, Fernando Lopes-Graça, José Mário Branco and Zeca Afonso, orchestrated by composer Francisco Tavares.
“April has been, since the Carnation Revolution, synonymous with regeneration and freedom. From poetry to visual arts, no art was indifferent to this indelible mark in our country’s life and those who constitute it. The April concert intends to exalt the spirit of freedom and the creativity that this freedom gave the Portuguese arts”, says the organisation.
