Orphans need your help

The Bom Samaritano is a charitable home for abandoned children and those who have been removed from their parents as a result of abuse. The institution, based in Alvor, is currently caring for 34 children between the ages of three and 16. “In the absence of a parental figure for these youngsters, we act as their support system providing for their needs, including a home, food, health and hygiene, medical provision, psychological and emotional support,” explains the home’s director, Marisa Isabel Luz Moreira Bossa.

Sadly, for the last two years, the children have been unable to use the outdoor play area, as it was officially condemned as unsafe for use. Now, Bossa is appealing for help to raise 13,000 euros needed to rebuild the play area and give the children a place to be challenged and emotionally stimulated and fulfilled. “Our need is desperate,” she commented.

The institution is pleading for anything anybody can do. If you would like to make a donation or raise money for this worthy cause, please contact the home on 282 459 201 or fax them on 282 458 569. Or you can simply write a cheque, made payable to Lar de Crianças Bom Samaritano, and post it to Sítio da Má Partilha, Estrada de Alvor, Apartado 250, 8501-911 Alvor, Portimão.

Alternatively, if you are free on Saturday March 27, you can join in the fun at a quiz and bingo night with live music, a raffle and dinner at Chefe António’s in Carvoeiro. The event will raise money for the much needed playground. It will cost 15 euros per person and children over the age of eight are welcome for 10 euros.
