Orchestra dates

CONCERTS FEATURING the Algarve Orchestra are being held throughout October in various cities across Portugal, featuring music by a variety of well known composers including Schubert, Mendelssohn and Mozart.

This first week in October has been marked by a series of concerts by the orchestra in the north and centre of Portugal featuring music by Schubert, Rossini and Mendelssohn. Venues this weekend will include the Cine-Teatro Eduardo Brazão in Vila Nova de Gaia tomorrow (Saturday), in the Coliseu do Porto on Sunday and at the Instituto Politécnico in Leiria on Monday.

The orchestra will return to the Algarve with a concert in Tavira at the Igreja do Carmo on October 12 featuring music composed by Mendelssohn, Joly Braga Santos and Haydn.

On October 19, the orchestra is due to play at the Pavilhão do Arade in Portimão with music from a variety of composers including Mozart, Elgar and Milhaud. This will be followed on October 20 with a concert at the Vale do Lobo’s auditorium.

An innovative programme called Soundtracks is being organised for October 27 at the Teatro das Figuras in Faro with music from films including Star Wars, Schindler’s List and the Prelude to Richard the third. The month’s programme will end on October 28 at the Igreja das Freiras in Lagos with a concert featuring music by the composers Haydn, Schubert and Francesco Geminiani.
