Algarve results

In Loulé, Seruca Emídio won a second term for PSD, beating off the challenge from his key opponent, Socialist candidate and former Câmara President, Vítor Aleixo. Patinha Antão (PSD) will remain president of the Municipal Assembly. Faith in the incumbent Mayor proved very strong, with Emídio securing more than 4,000 votes more than Aleixo.

However, on a more local level, PS managed to maintain control over all its Juntas de Freguesia, including Almancil, and gained Ameixial. The Bloco de Esquerda (Left Block) were delighted to learn they had fulfilled their aim to gain a seat in Loulé’s Municipal Assembly.

In one of the clearest results, Tavira President Macário Correia (PSD) scored an absolute majority in his council, winning 53.8 per cent of the vote. His main opponent, Fialho Anastácio (PS), was said to be “so disillusioned” by the result that he resigned from his post as vereador of Tavira Câmara.
