Three men were arrested last Saturday (January 28) after being caught with 200 kilos of oranges allegedly stolen from an orchard in Santa Rita, Tavira.
The trio, aged between 16 and 29, apparently made off in their van when GNR police arrived but were finally stopped near Aldeia Nova, Vila Real de Santo António.
Thefts of oranges are a serious issue in the Algarve, with some producers claiming losses amounting to thousands of euros.
