Four tonnes of beach rubbish collected in five Algarve boroughs
Zoomarine has announced that four tonnes of rubbish were collected during the fourth ‘Operação Praia Limpa’ (Operation Clean Beach), a beach clean-up initiative which this year took place in a record five boroughs (Silves, Lagoa, Loulé, Albufeira and Faro).
The event brought together volunteers and several partnering entities who worked together to remove as much rubbish as possible from local beaches and the bottom of the sea.
Says the Guia-based theme park, around three tonnes of the collected rubbish were removed from the seabed near Culatra island’s port.
“There is naturally still a lot to do, but the growth of this movement encourages us to continue, year after year, with this environmental responsibility,” Zoomarine said.
For now, however, the theme park is focusing on the next edition of ‘Operação Montanha Verde’ (Operation Green Mountain) which will aim to plant 42,000 trees in eight Algarve boroughs between November 6 and 7.
