Operation Babel’s ‘suspect CEO’ stands down

Fortera group CEO Elad Dror, arrested in Operation Babel last week, from which he was released on payment of €1 million bail, will voluntarily resign his position with “immediate effect”, the company announced today. “Elad Dror, the current CEO, will resign from his position with immediate effect in a voluntary manner, as previously stated before the (criminal instruction) judge at his hearing, thus allowing the company to continue its activity without any interference from and in the ongoing process, which we estimate will end without further charges,” Fortera said in a statement sent to news outlets. Two of the defendants in this investigation are being kept in preventive custody: one being the former deputy mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia, Socialist Patrocinio Azevedo, the other being real estate promoter Paulo Malafaias, already implicated in an investigation into suspected planning illegalities in Espinho.
