AFTER TWO years of setbacks and delays, Lisbon’s long-running Marquês Tunnel underpass will finally open in April says Lisbon Câmara.
During a câmara meeting last week, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carmona Rodrigues said that the tunnel’s official inauguration would take place in two months. In an interview on Rádio Club, Marina Ferreira of Lisbon Câmara said that the câmara was awaiting the security clearance documents, which if certified, would mean the tunnel would be open in April. However, Bloco de Esquerda councillor José Sá Fernandes accused the mayor of lying, adding that the tunnel “could not be opened in April because excavation works on a section above the metro hadn’t even begun”.
