“Abril Traz Novas Cores” enables emerging and established artists to showcase their work side by side.
From April 20 until the end of May, the Manuela Vale Gallery at the Mestre Fernando Rodrigues School of Arts in Lagoa will host the “Abril Traz Novas Cores” (April Brings New Colours) Exhibition.
The contemporary art show, comprising works by artists based in Lagoa, will be inaugurated on Thursday, April 20, at 18:00. The opening ceremony will feature a performance by Algarve Youth Guitar Orchestra students.
“The first edition of “Abril Traz Novas Cores”, despite having been held during the pandemic, was a hugely successful initiative and very well received by the artist community and the general public”, say the event organisers.
“Contemporary art is a living expression of society and the world in which we live. Through it, artists can express their ideas, emotions and worldviews.
In strange times, like the ones we live in, art plays an even more critical role, as it is a way to reflect on reality and inspire change, challenge our ideals and connect with other people and cultures.”
The Escola de Artes de Lagoa – Mestre Fernando Rodrigues invites interested artists to participate in this collective contemporary art exhibition by submitting their free thematic work. Artists of any nationality residing or working in the municipality of Lagoa can participate and present works.
The participation categories range from multimedia art, artistic ceramics, drawing, sculpture and photography to installation, painting and other cross-disciplinary/creative variants.
“This is an opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their work alongside established artists, creating a dialogue between different generations and artistic perspectives. Both can connect with a wider audience, who will discover new art forms and artists.”
How to participate?
Interested parties must email the school with information about the artist (name, contact, short biographical note and online site) accompanied by a file with the image (name of the artist.jpg, max. size 10 MB) and information about the piece they are submitting (title, year, technique, dimensions) to: [email protected]
Work can be handed in on weekdays, from 09:30 to 12:00 and from 14:30 to 17:00, until April 14.
