Starting June 28, online gambling will be legal in Portugal.
The announcement was made on Wednesday (April 29) by the Secretary of State for Tourism Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, who intimated that the government hopes to make around €25 million from the granting of licences and additional tax revenue.
The legalisation means both Portuguese and foreigners can start betting online in Portugal.
The government is to begin working on a set of regulations so that companies can request their licences digitally, Mesquita said, adding that the first licences should be granted in the last three months of this year.
