APMGF (the Portuguese association of family medicine) is promoting an online debate today (Tuesday) to try and bring doctors and other health professionals up to speed on the health benefits of medicinal cannabis. As Hugo Cordeiro of the association’s ‘pain study group’ explains, doctors and other health professionals are “the main obstacles” to the use of medicinal cannabis for chronic pain. Families of patients tend to be the ones who inquire about the potential use of medicinal cannabis, only to be confronted with a real lack of understanding. He tells reporters that “the use of cannabinoids can help reduce (the use of) opioids, and have a favourable risk-benefit ratio”.
