Loulé is offering free parking for one hour at the town’s car park near the municipal library to those wanting to shop locally.
The initiative is being carried out by the Loulé Business Owners Association, municipal company Loulé Concelho Global and the local town hall.
It aims to encourage people to use the car park instead of driving around looking for a place to park. Says Loulé Concelho Global, around 20% of the town’s traffic are drivers looking for somewhere to leave their car.
“Parking at the municipal car park is the best option. It is more convenient, economical, safer and more accessible,” says Loulé Concelho Global.
The goal is also to promote the town’s local businesses, making it easier for shoppers to visit the area.
The cost of the first hour of parking will be covered equally by Loulé Concelho Global and the store where the purchase is made.
The municipal car park boasts 259 spaces. The underground section is open on weekdays from 8am to 8pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 5pm, while the rest of the park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
