Santarém || One man has died and another is fighting for his life in hospital after a gruesome drug battle at a farm in the countryside near Salvaterra de Magos, Santarém.
Police were called to the farm at almost exactly the same moment that a fatally injured man was dumped on the steps of the police station by the unidentified occupants of a Mercedes van.
At the farm, in Foros de Salvaterra, another man was later found to be fighting for his life.
He had been shot three times: twice in the chest and once in the leg, as well as stabbed.
The bloody afternoon seems to have been connected with drug-trafficking.
According to news reports, investigators found various cannabis plants at the farm, including materials for cannabis cultivation.
It is not certain why the men came to be shooting and stabbing each other, but a number were involved, and police are now looking for the driver and occupant of the Mercedes Vito van, which sped off after ejecting a 43-year-old man who had been fatally stabbed. The man is understood to have died later in hospital.
The other serious casualty was airlifted to Lisbon’s Santa Maria hospital, where he continues to remain in a serious condition.
