On your marks

TWO RUNNING groups have been set up in preparation for the final 10km of the 2girls2run charity campaign, which will take place on May 10 and is open to the public.

A running group at Barringtons Golf and Health Spa in Vale do Lobo will take place every Sunday at 10am, beginning this weekend.

The other group meets every Wednesday outside Silves Municipal Swimming Pool, at 7.30pm.

Organised by Sue’s Road Runners in association with 2girls2run, the group are free to join and open to people over the age of 14. They are especially geared towards beginners but all runners are welcome.

The 2girls2run campaign sees local residents Shirley Emílio and Amanda Mortimer run 215km across the Algarve, in aid of Algarve based children’s charity ACCA and the UK’s Jane’s Appeal.

Shirley and Amanda told The Resident that there would be many highlights but both said that the part they are most looking forward to is the last 10km.

Amanda said: “We will be running with folks from all walks of life, ages, shapes and sizes and that is what this is all about, bringing people together for a healthier life”.

For more information about the Barringtons running group, please call Wanda Crawford on 919 617 995 and call Sue Howard on 913 651 466 for information on the Silves running group. Runners can also just turn up at either group on the day.
