Dutch World Cup veteran Edgar Davids, 32, has swapped Inter Milan for Tottenham Hotspur. The midfielder, capped 73 times by his country, will earn almost seven million euros for one year’s work at White Hart Lane.

England supersub, Darius Vassell, 25, is looking to resurrect his international career with Manchester City following a four million euro move from Aston Villa. The striker, who only scored twice in 20 appearances last season, will partner fellow City new boy, Andy Cole, up front.

Jared Borgetti, 31, has become the first Mexican to play in the Premiership following his move to Bolton, and Celtic have signed Reggina’s 27-year-old Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura in a deal believed to be worth around five million euros.

Arsenal look set to lose out to Real Madrid in their efforts to land Sevilla’s Julio Baptista. The Brazilian wants to stay in Spain and the Spanish giants are prepared to pay 34 million euros, nine more than the Gunners. Madrid are also involved in negotiations to lure Germany captain Michael Ballack from Bayern Munich to the Bernabau.
