Omicron variant already responsible for 47% of cases in Portugal

The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is already responsible for 47% of cases in Portugal. This is what is worrying experts, who initially predicted the country would only reach 50% by Christmas. The way things are going, 50% will be hit well before the end of the week. The rapid acceleration of infections is why the government convened earlier today to decide new measures, to be announced early this evening by prime minister António Costa.
