Olive oil production registers “historic maximum” for 2014/15

The country’s economic results may be lukewarm, but when it comes to olive oil production, Portugal has made leaps and bounds, registering “a historic maximum” for the years 2014 to 2015 “only exceeded by campaigns in 1953 and 1961”. According to INE statistics institute, producers delivered 1.19 million hectolitres (hectolitre=100 litres), an increase of 3.5% on previous years helped by “new intensive groves” operating in the Alentejo.
