Olhão to host first Iberian Technology Summit

Event will bring experts and industry leaders to the Algarve

Olhão is getting ready to host the first edition of the Iberian Technology Summit, an event which will bring some of the top experts and industry leaders to the Algarve on April 28 and 29.

The event will be held at the Real Marina Hotel & Spa, which is expecting over 800 participants who will take part in a ‘hackathon’ – a social coding event that brings together programmers – as well as a range of workshops and presentations led by technology experts.

ITS is described as one of the first events of its kind in the Algarve, aiming on “crossing the borders and languages of the peninsula and helping to empower the community of professionals, workers and businesses to grow stronger together.”

“This free-of-charge two-days event focuses on supporting those interested in a career in technology, or companies wondering how tech can empower their business. Over two days gain access to industry leading technologists and companies that offers an insight on how technology, optimisation and right attitude can help businesses and their employees grow,” organisers say.

In charge of the event is Kaila Bloomfield, who has worked with Microsoft and is seen as an “ambassador of females in the tech industry”. She moved from the UK to Faro in 2020 and started the ITS project to “support the tech movement in the Iberian Peninsula” and “give people without IT background the possibility to have a look at and eventually start working in this field.”

“This event offers a unique opportunity for individuals of all backgrounds and skill levels to come together and explore the latest innovations in IT and software,” says Kaila Bloomfield. “Whether you’re looking to start a new career, advance your current one or find a way to understand how to grow your business, this event can be your gateway to success. No prior knowledge is required, so don’t hesitate to register today and open your door to endless possibilities”.

The summit will be “trilingual” and will receive industry leaders who will present sessions on both technology and business solutions in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

According to the event’s organisers, 54 presentations and 11 “high-quality” practical workshops are planned on how to use Microsoft products to solve real-life challenges of businesses.

Speakers such as Jon Levesque (Washington, US), Maíra Wenzel (Los Angeles, US) and Miguel Coquet (Faro, Portugal) will “share their point of view on engagement, adoption and how to create local hubs of knowledge that influence jobs, community and better market competition.”

The workshops will cover a range of topics, including “HR in a Day the Microsoft Way”, “How to use AI” and “How to set up an automated customer contact centre”.

Since places are limited for the workshops, a small reservation fee will guarantee a place.

Also planned is a ‘Power Platform Hackathon’, in which teams will “have the opportunity to develop software solutions for climate change related challenges, with a reward for the best team.” In addition, experts will present sessions on Microsoft solutions and offer advice to those who want to join the industry but don’t know where to start, as well as how to take businesses on a technical but cost-minimising journey.

The Iberian Technology Summit is mainly supported by International Workplace Group (IWG), Microsoft and KnK Group, and the expo hall, coffee breaks and evening events will give participants the opportunity to meet with possible employers and network with peers.
