Olhão teen dies in high-speed car crash near Faro Airport

A 19-year-old from Olhão died and four others were injured – two of them seriously – in a violent car crash on the EN125/10 road near Faro Airport.

The accident happened on Saturday night (April 16) when the youngsters were driving at high speed to Praia de Faro in a Peugeot 206, reports national tabloid Correio da Manhã.

The car skidded near the entrance to Quinta do Eucalipto and hit the road’s median strip.

The impact was so violent that the car overturned, only stopping 100 metres down the road after hitting a tree.

Driver Hélder Brito died at the scene, while his four friends – aged between 19 and 21 – were taken to Faro Hospital. Two of them are said to have sustained “serious injuries”.

GNR police are investigating.
