Olhão seafood festival opens on Monday

Olhão’s Festival do Marisco, the event seafood lovers across the Algarve have been waiting for, opens on Monday (August 10) and is expected to bring thousands flocking.

Now in its 30th year, the festival will feature “fresh Ria Formosa shellfish and seafood” as well as a strong list of musical entertainment, regional sweets and handicrafts.

Presenting the event last week, mayor António Pina said the show will include a few novelties – including larger grounds at the town’s Jardim Pescador Olhanense. He also stressed the “excellent musical line-up and an improved Kids Club”.

“Those who have visited the festival before will notice a difference,” he affirmed.

Entrance costs €9 (children over seven €4, under-6s free) except on August 10 (€12) and August 15 (€10), when Angolan singer Anselmo Ralph and Brazilian-Portuguese Daniela Mercury will be making star appearances.

Júlio Resende, Ana Moura, Ana Bacalhau (Fado & Further), Richie Campbell, Mickael Carreira and José Cid are the other big names due to perform.

The seafood festival is organised by municipal company Fesnima and will run until August 15.

Doors open every evening at 7.30pm.
