A new library is set to open, within a year, on the site of Olhão’s former hospital. The President of Olhão Câmara, Francisco Leal, said the works, budgeted at 600,000 euros, were originally proposed four years ago. “The plans then stalled due to bureaucratic hurdles and the need to comply with various building and financial regulations,” explained Leal. However, Olhão Câmara is now pleased to announce that despite the earlier problems, plans are going ahead. The library will be divided into several parts, including an adult section equipped with a lending library, a reference section with magazines, periodicals and audio-visual aids and a children’s area. There will also be regular events throughout the year, such as readings by authors, exhibitions, debates and conferences.
