Opposition parties have vetoed the draft budget presented by the Olhão ruling PS party at the municipal assembly recently.
The proposed budget suggested spending of €32 million – €8 million less than the municipal authority spent last year.
Speaking to Sulinformação, Olhão Mayor António Pina said that it was “strange” that the budget was vetoed, particularly after a number of meetings in which councillors from the main opposition party, the PSD, worked together with municipal leaders to create a consensual document.
However, the PSD members of the municipal assembly were not convinced, and have now forced the Socialist administration into further talks with the opposition parties.
