Olhanense continued their fine form under new boss Bruno Baltazar as they beat Leixões 3-1 at a very wet José Arcanjo Stadium last Sunday.
The visitors adapted better to the atrocious conditions and, not surprisingly, took the lead after 11 minutes. Rui Cardoso’s left boot made a perfect connection with Vumbi’s cross to give Evtimov no chance in the home goal.
André Salvador then wasted two good opportunities to increase their lead before Jorman Aguilar missed a similar chance for Olhanense.
Ten minutes before the interval, the home side did level matters when Tiago Barros found the back of the net. Fans were still trying to find a dry seat as Doudou Mangni gave Olhanense the lead two minutes into the second-half.
The Italian striker had the simplest of tasks to score after good work by Jorman Aguilar. It was the Panamanian international who was to score the third 10 minutes later. Aguilar nodded home his third headed goal in three games as skipper Coubronne delivered a perfect cross.
Leixões coach Daniel Kenedy made three substitutions in quick succession but, despite several dangerous moves, the home defence stood solid with Tiago Duque in impressive form.
It was Olhanense who missed the best opportunities of the second-half as Galassi (twice) and Aldair went close.
The Olhão-based team, having won three and drawn two of their last five games, are now just a point below Leixões and two points below Freamunde who they play away this weekend.
