Olhanense sinking fast

Prior to Christmas, when new boss Bruno Baltazar took charge, SC Olhanense looked to be making a fighting fist of retaining their Segunda Liga status when they went six games undefeated and racked up 12 points. The next six games have proved disastrous with not a single point on the board.

The team are cast adrift at the bottom of the league with just 13 points and now find themselves 15 points from safety. With 18 games remaining, it would take a miracle of epic proportions to keep the ship afloat.

The latest misery was inflicted by SC Covilhã up in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela. But for an outstanding performance by debutant keeper Lukasz Skowron, the 3-0 defeat would have been much greater.

Erivelto opened the scoring for the home side after 20 minutes, Joel added a second 10 minutes after the interval and Onyeka finished the job two minutes from time.

Olhanense’s only effort on target in the first-half came from Sori Mané, 10 minutes before the break. Jorman had an effort well saved by Covilhã keeper Igor Rodrigues midway through the second-half but it was at the other end, where most of the action took place, that Poland U21 international keeper Lukasz Skowron pulled off a string of outstanding saves.

Porto sail into town

On Sunday (February 5) the Olhanense team have a chance to regain some self-respect as they entertain FC Porto B at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão, kick-off 11.15am in front of the SportTV cameras. It is hard to believe that just three years ago Olhanense beat Porto’s first team 2-1 at the same venue!
