SC Olhanense sank to a new low when they were dumped out of the Portugal Cup by Algarve District Division side FC Silves.
Olhanense, who play at the third level, failed to impose their clear theoretical advantage. With a number of useful attacking players, it is a mystery why manager Ivo Soares persists in playing a defensive format.
With the score at 0-0 after extra-time, it was the visitors who remained more composed in the penalty shoot-out. Tiago Barros and Leandro Livramento failed for the home side while André Tonon scored the fourth and decisive penalty for Silves.
Armacenenses beat Juv. Évora 3-1 thanks to goal from Malaine (27), Anderson (72) and Wellington (90 + 2).
Louletano were eliminated in the trip to the Amora, after extra-time, in a match between two teams of the Championship of Portugal.
Twenty-two teams who were eliminated in the first round have received a second chance in the second round and Louletano are one of the lucky ones! The draw for the second round of the Portugal Cup includes the following games involving Algarve teams:
Valadares Gaia FC – Louletano DC
Beneditense – Os Armacenenses
Portalegrense 1925 – SC Farense
Silves FC – União SC Paredes
All games to be played on September 30.
