The long trip north to V.Guimarães resulted in a 1-0 defeat despite a spirited second-half performance. In the opinion of Olhanense manager Daúto Faquirá, his side deserved at least a point but once again poor finishing and sloppy defending cost the Algarveans all three points, Ribeiro’s 50th minute strike settling the issue.
Yontcha had a great opportunity to level the score midway through the second period but his header, with the goal at his mercy, was aimed straight at Nilson.
Both keepers Nilson (Guimarães) and Baptisita (Olhanense) made world-class saves in the closing minutes.
Benfica allowed their new signing from Olhanense, Jardel, to play his last game for the Algarve side. The 24-year-old Olhanense centre-back has signed a long-term deal at Estadio da Luz. He was under contract to the Brazilian football agency Traffic, who placed him in Olhanense on condition that he could be sold in the transfer window.
As such, Olhanense will receive just €75,000 for the player, although the club has also retained the right to a 20% cut of any future transfer.
The price Benfica paid to acquire the player has not yet been revealed but thought to be in the region of €400,000.
The Brazilian has been rewarded for a highly impressive first half of the season at Olhanense, and is seen as the ideal replacement for the inevitable sale of compatriot, David Luiz. Olhanense, bereft of a proven goal scoring centre-forward, have now secured the services of Dady, from Bucaspor in Turkey, until the end of next season.
The Cape Verde international, twenty caps and five goals, had three seasons with top Spanish club Osasuna before signing for the Turkish club last summer.
