A confident Olhanense – four points from their previous two away games – made the long journey north to play Gil Vicente at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos. But the visitors were soon on the back foot as Cadú opened the scoring for Gil Vicente after just seven minutes. Paulinho’s left-wing cross was headed powerfully home giving keeper Moreira no chance. Olhanense hung on until half-time having had only one effort on goal when Murilo’s shot was well saved by Serginho.
After the interval Olhanense pressed the midfield and began to dominate the game but all their good work was undone just before the hour mark. Galassi picked up two yellow cards in the space of 90 seconds and was off for an early bath.
Despite a brave rearguard action by defenders Rodolfo Lourenço, Coubronne and skipper Materazzi, there was to be no fairytale ending as Goba and Paulinho wrapped up the points for Gil Vicente with 10 minutes to go.
Olhanense are now just two points above the drop zone – five teams will be relegated as the league reduces its number to 22 teams next season. Olhanense are next in action at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão on Saturday November 14 at 4pm when they entertain newly-promoted Mafra.
